About the Role

As CTO of Tonalli Systems, you will be the technical co-founder responsible for building and scaling our PlantPulse platform. You will work directly with the CEO to translate our mission of accessible environmental education into robust, scalable technology that serves K-12 students and older adults alike.

Responsibilities

Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for PlantPulse and future products
Lead architecture decisions for IoT hardware, firmware, and web platform development
Build and mentor the engineering team as we scale
Collaborate with the CEO on product strategy and go-to-market planning
Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of all technical systems
Manage relationships with technology partners and vendors

Requirements

7+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a technical leadership role
Experience with IoT systems, embedded development, or hardware-software integration
Strong background in web application development (React, Node.js, or similar)
Experience scaling early-stage products from MVP to production
Passion for education, social impact, or environmental sustainability
Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences

Nice to Have

Experience with ESP32 or similar microcontrollers
Background in edtech or nonprofit technology
Experience with real-time data systems and sensor networks
Prior startup or founding team experience
